About Us

Where it all Started

Catherine and I each got involved with Cru while we were in college —  I was studying Electrical Engineering at Virginia Tech. As I faced my senior year I saw that each company with whom I interviewed wanted me to give my life to “their cause,” whether that be building fighter jets or working with computers. My time in the fellowship of Cru showed me that I wanted to put my technical abilities to eternal use. At the same time, Catherine was studying Special Education at the University of Connecticut. Catherine had long sensed God’s call on her life to full-time ministry but was never sure how that would look. Separately we decided to join the staff of Cru after graduation, in 1984, and we met that summer. We each were assigned to work at Cru’s World Headquarters, which at the time was in San Bernardino, California.

Catherine and I were married in 1986. Our family expanded in 1989 when Kathryn Noreen was born. In 1991, Cru moved its World Headquarters to Orlando, FL and we followed. One year later, Rebecca Elizabeth made Cady a big sister. Our family became complete in 1997 when Rachel Andrea arrived. Or so we thought – in the spring of 2013, Cady married Kevin, and we gained a son! Cady and Kevin gave us our first granddaughter, Khloe, in 2016. In the spring of 2017, Becca married Zach, and we gained another son! Cady and Kevin gave us our second granddaughter, Rylie, in 2017! And in the fall of 2019, Becca gave birth to Murphy Catherine! Three grandgirls! We are blessed!

Currently Cady is the manager of a Hair Cuttery salon in Orlando, Becca is a pre-school teacher in Orlando, and Rachel is a Senior at North Greenville University in Greenville, South Carolina, playing lacrosse and studying Sports Ministry.

Our Ministry Work

35 years later, both Catherine and I continue to feel God’s strong calling to use our abilities in serving Him and, we feel God continuing to call us to minister through Cru. I  have been blessed with opportunities to use my computer, organization and leadership skills in my ministry assignments. Currently I am serving with the Technology department of Cru (the department that I originally served with when I started in 1986), leading infrastructure, customer service and tech support teams, helping to train and equip our Global field staff and volunteers in the work that God has called them to do.

Catherine joined the staff of Cru with a passion to see women begin and then grow in a relationship with God. God has allowed Catherine to see this happen in ways that we could have never imagined — through our girls, her writing, participation in public schools, youth ministry, public speaking and more. Currently Catherine serves on the communications team for the US College Campus Ministry.

And together, Catherine and I get to serve our U.S. staff members at our National Staff Conference every other summer. We have spent over two years (in total) on the campus of Colorado State University. For 25 years I have helped head up the summer office management, technology and data teams for not only the two week conference, but also for our 4 week Institute of Biblical Studies (Cru’s seminary program) and other classes and meetings for our ministry leaders. Catherine loves to serve our staff — her job involves interacting with hundreds of people throughout the summer (perfect for her!). She works on the Information Team helping people register for our conference, answering questions about life in Ft. Collins and more. Our family loves getting to experience Colorado.  It’s our favorite home-away-from-home.
