What is something that you have been doing for a looooooong time? I have been a mom for 33 years, have been married for 36 years and have been a Cru staff member for 38 years. I have been breathing for 60 years (as of April 23rd). That floors me. And then we have a new grand baby coming sometime this month. He will be starting everything from scratch. We are waiting for our first grandson.
I want to start our letter this month reflecting on the war in Ukraine. It is an ocean away, but so present as I imagine mothers and grandmothers working to protect their children and grands, praying for their sons and husbands, uncles and brothers who are fighting on both sides. We join so many of you in praying for the situation to end soon, and until then, we pray that God’s name will unmistakably be made known. Please pray for our Cru staff on both sides of the conflict. Pray that God will be glorified in the midst of this darkness. We are waiting for peace.
Both Andy and I are working on our “second jobs”, operational support for our national staff conference, Cru22. You may remember that this year we will be meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Just before St. Patrick’s Day, Andy took a one day trip there (up and back in the same day!). He met with co-workers who will put together the arrival/check-in on the first day of the conference, and with people from The Wisconsin Center and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther Arena (isn’t that a great name) the basketball/hockey arena where our meetings will be held. We are waiting to go to Milwaukee.
Andy has been focusing on the computer registration website where more than 4000 staff members have already registered. He also has spent hours preparing electronic “paperwork” that staff parents have to complete should they choose to have their child in our childcare program. Later this month Andy will be flying to Fort Collins, Colorado, part of a team of men and women who will decide what to do with the six semi-truck storage trailers filled with things we previously used to run our conference there. Some of the things packed there (childcare items, coffeehouse machines, etc) will need to be transported to Wisconsin. Much will be donated to local ministries. Andy is waiting to see the Rockies.
I have been sharing the responsibilities of answering questions and giving out information through our information and help email box. We’ve fielded lots of questions, people are concerned about COVID-19, parking in the new city, and where they can eat. I have heard that the food scene in town is quite good. When Andy went to Milwaukee he brought me back smoked gouda and cheese curds. We both can’t wait for July 9, when we touch down there. I hope to come home with a cheese head. Like this, though
I’m hoping to find one with a tiara! I am waiting to see 4000 friends in one place!!
Again, please join us in praying for all people involved in the war in the Ukraine. Pray for a healthy grandboy and healthy momma (Becca). Please pray for the remaining work leading up to our national staff conference. As always, thank you for your partnership in ministry. We so love serving our staff with the gifts God has given us, and you make that possible!
