Emmanuel—God with us

God: Creator and King of the universe;
With: Near and within;
Us: you and me!

This name for God’s son has been very rich for me this Christmas season. I keep hearing it in songs, I have seen it on billboards and it was displayed at our church during Advent. God, in all of His might and power and glory, chose to put on human form, taking on the form of a baby. He chose to become one of us. And then God sent his Holy Spirit to dwell IN us. The fullness of God inside willful human beings. That is a Christmas miracle!

Our branch of the Kellogg family was all together in Orlando. Cady and Kevin hosted Christmas morning. Rachel has been with us for three weeks, Becca and Zach came down from Charleston for five days and split their time between our family and Zach’s. Kevin’s family joined us on Christmas morning.

This year I am loving passing on the story of the birth of Jesus to a precious new generation. Khloe loves the Christmas books and songs and decorations. Both she and Rylie LOVE the ornaments, mostly moving them around the tree. I have begun sharing the classic 70’s movies: Charlie Brown’s Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Clause is Coming to Town. I have also thrown in my personal, all-time favorite, The Muppets Christmas Carol. When they are older I will share the 1947 version of Miracle on 34th Street.

Andy and I are grateful for another year of ministry. I was invited to join the Internal2018-12-1 Communications Team for Cru’s campus ministry. Andy loves serving our staff around the world, and he enjoyed the hard work of the two conferences he helped run, the one in Cyprus and one in Dallas. I got to go on a trip to Indianapolis for writer training and in mid-January I will get to work at a college ministry conference for Hispanic students. Soon we will begin the big push toward our National Staff Conference in Colorado. Much has happened with that, we will fill you in during the coming months.

One thing I am going to do this coming year is document “God Sightings” — times and places where I have seen God moving. I am getting a special notebook to set by my bed for note taking, and for remembering the good things God has done. I anticipate a full book by December, 2019.
