Happy New Year! I hope this finds you healthy and warm.
Thank you — thank you for your partnership, your prayers and financial giving that makes possible the things God has called us to do. We are beginning our 33rd year in ministry and each new year brings new ways to trust in the Lord. We appreciate you!
I love new things — new calendars where I get to fill in important dates, new notebooks with pages to be filled, new crafts to learn. A new year tends to bring me energy and hope —
hope that I’ll accomplish things (resolutions), hope that my family will find peace and success, hope that the world will be a positive place.
One thing that is constantly new in our lives is what Miss Khloe is doing and learning and accomplishing. I‘m really enjoying this grandma thing. She has begun to walk-crawl so my time is no longer my own. She loves exploring every corner of the house, chewing on her books, and for some reason can not resist the gel inserts in our shoes. She is truly good about going out and having coffee and deep conversations with friends. Well, allowing me to have deep conversations.
Andy’s plate continues to be VERY full at work, which has not been helped by some recent circumstances. On the work front; the new summer conference registration program is down to the wire — they will ‘roll it out” in the next two weeks. The program was originally written for college conferences and Andy is adapting it to include married couples, families with children, and families who bring a relative along to watch their kids. And all of the summer class/training options. And recreation center pass requests. And parking permits. And housing assignments — MANY moving parts. Please pray with us for patience on the part of our registrants and quick wisdom for those who are working on the program.
Andy’s other project is also getting close to “roll out”, yet this is different because it is being written by a company in Canada with Andy consulting. This is the “On-Site Data Management” program. At this point, about 60% of the programming is done. However that is the “easy part” –
the part of the program that manages things like name, phone number, email addresses. The next part will take more planning, thought and discussions. Please pray with us that the programmers in Canada will give the project the time and effort it needs, and for Andy (and his coworker Mike) to lead well and ask the right questions.
On the circumstances front; the Friday that Rachel was to go back to NGU (for spring semester) she came down with the flu! Andy agreed to take her to the doctor’s office, then to drive her all of the way to NGU! (She had a mandatory lacrosse meeting.) They were met on campus by Andy’s parents (who live two hours away in Charlotte) who took Andy to their home and got him on a plane the next morning.
Sadly, he had come down with a cold. This put him in bed for 24 hours and his wife forbid him to return to work right way. Monday he and I went to run errands, including getting my car out of the shop. Less than two hours later, Andy was the third car in a three car accident — he had been stopped at a light and was hit from behind! We took the car BACK to the shop. That Saturday Andy got the first case of stomach/intestinal flu that hit
all of us (except for Becca and Zach)! And it was a doozy, laying all of us up for 48-72 hours. Even Khloe.
Whether at work, at home, or driving the roads between here and Greenville, we feel and need your prayers. And with the new year before us, there will be so many new things to talk about. Next stop, Becca’s wedding on March 3rd. Soon after that, the arrival of Grandgirl #2. Please pray with us for peace during the final weeks of wedding planning, for efficiency and thinking through all of the details. And, for a safe delivery for Cady and the baby, and that Cady will not experience post-partum anxiety. Again, we could not do what we do without your prayers.
