Summer has hit and we are, at this moment, all in Colorado! Cady, Kevin, Becca, Rachel, Andy and I (and two of Rachel’s friends — Anna and Parker) all living in an apartment. Makes for lots of fun, laughter and helpful hands in the kitchen.
Cady and Kevin are visiting for a week of vacation. We have hiked in Rocky Mountain State Park, eaten at some of our favorite places, and have loved being able to sit on the porch during the evening.
We have reconnected with lots of friends and have sent the kids to the Drive-In Theater twice. Andy, Kevin, Parker, Anna and Rachel went whitewater rafting and, on their last night here, we all got to go to Walrus Ice Cream — a must in Fort Collins.
Becca is working this summer as a supervisor at our two Coffee House locations. She oversees the daily running of the coffeehouse and student employees. The “Cru Brew Crew” serves our new staff, those training to be in Campus Ministry leadership, those training to serve overseas, and those of us working to run all those programs. It is a great opportunity for Becca, getting to have such responsibility. Plus, she found out that she has a job with Boosterthon when we return to Orlando! (see the next page)
Rachel is working at the coffeehouse and learning the joys and pains of having a roommate (her friend Anna). This is significant for our deep introvert. Anna and Parker are a fun addition to our family, and we are enjoying showing them all of our favorite places and activities. They are working the Coffeehouse too.
Not Quite The Same
This year’s Conference will look different than ever before. It will still be held at Colorado State University but we have changed the name from CSU15 to Cru15 (less about the place, more about the ministry). This year’s conference is also two days longer than last time. We will have fewer large meetings and more time to meet within our ministries (U.S. Cru is made up of more than 11 ministry areas? Andy and I serve at Headquarters, under Digital Strategies). We will have seven major speakers and three worship groups. Andy and I get to celebrate our time with Cru — this time 30 years on Staff (31, but who’s counting?) We have no night meetings and will be able to leave on July 24th (early for us).
Why Do We Go To Colorado?
We are gathering all of our U.S. staff members in the Moby Arena at Colorado State University. Our leadership so values “being on the same page” in ministry that they call us all together on a regular basis. This year’s conference will touch on four topics:
Trusting the Lord for multiplying disciples around the world. This is a global goal. Part of that is the Missionary Spirit — trusting God for everything and moving forward in faith.- Partnering well inside our organization and with other organizations around the world. This is more and more how ministry is getting done.
- Praying about bringing a change in ethnic diversity within our ministry. How can we best reach people of ethnic groups other than ours. Many of the meetings in Moby Arena were focused on ministering to those like us, and those not like us. It was uncomfortable, as we confronted our own prejudices, and worked to move past them.
- Reaching the world — the U.S. mission exists to bless the world, we want all that we do here to have a worldwide impact.
Again, thank you for being a part of what God has called us to — helping reach the world with the great news that Jesus Saves!!
Boosterthon – Becca’s New Job
Boosterthon is a company that comes into elementary schools and helps them raise funds. Becca will be a part of the Orlando Team. The Boosterthon Fun Run is the preferred f
undraising choice for America’s top schools!
The Boosterthon program wraps Fitness, Leadership, and Character together. Rather than selling chocolate or wrapping paper, students learn that fitness is fun as they prepare for the day of the Boosterthon Fun Run. Character lessons taught by the Booster team include: play with humility, run with endurance, live with integrity. Students also learn about what it means to be a leader during the nine day experience.
This is such a great fit for Becca. She is going to be part cheerleader and part teacher. And she has a script to memorize, using her theater skills! Many of her UCF friends already work for Boosterthon. Again, we are thrilled for this opportunity for her.

Here are some pictures from our nine-day drive across the country – we ate at several places featured on the TV show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”, and went to three canyons!
