30 Years!

There is No One Like Our God

The summer of 1984, that was when this all started for us. Andy and I had each graduated from college and felt God calling us to serve Him through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. We traveled to Colorado for training, and then went “home” (Andy to Delaware, me to Connecticut) to watch God develop our team of ministry partners. We reported to our first assignment at the headquarters of CCC, which was then in San Bernardino, California (Andy to Computer Services, our U.S. IT department, me as a writer on a team called Mass Media). One year later we were married, merging our lives and our ministry work. God has chosen to use us in so many ways (see the list below!). What an adventure with an amazing God. Thank you for being a part of all this — whether you have been here from the beginning or joined our team just recently. It is a HUGE privilege to not only serve God but to also do it with the prayers and financial support of others. We are thrilled to serve with you! Another 30 years? Only God knows.

Our God is a Faithful God

The first week of January, Andy and I got to go over to Daytona Beach and help set up for the training of the next class of new Cru staff members. Then, during the last week of January I got to help those new staff tour our headquarters. While we were sitting at lunch I overheard a young lady sharing, “I grew up in Northern California in a small town and I am being assigned to work at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles.” Her voice shook as she spoke. I could relate. You see, when I came on staff with Cru I told God I would serve Him “anywhere within a one-day’s drive of my home.” God sent me to San Bernardino, California.

I walked over and introduced myself to Laura, I shared that, like her, I was raised in a small town (Unionville, Connecticut = 2000 people in 1984) and like her, God chose to send me to Southern California. And then, for about 10 minutes, I got to regale her with the number of ways God had been, and has been faithful in my life. In a way, the conversation surprised even me, usually I do not speak kindly of my time in San Bernardino. But the evidences of God’s goodness, mercy and gentleness were numerous.

I shared example after example of what God did back then, putting me in places where I HAD to rely on Him. I shared that, had I stayed where I was familiar, I likely would have trusted in my own power, my own abilities rather than clinging to Jesus in a “new land.” Even I walked away from our conversation encouraged! What a joy to speak of 30 years of faithfulness. God is SO good.
