Alterations All Around

A Full Nest for the Summer after a Crazy Spring

This year has moved particularly fast for me.  I literally am stunned that it is already summer!  Andy and I are sorry that it’s been a few months since you’ve heard from us, but this spring has been an emotional whirlwind,  Let me elaborate.

Becca finished her fourth Becca as Helsasemester of college in late April.  Once again she had a major part in her school’s spring play.  And once again it was wonderful to have her close enough (4 hours) that we could see her act!  Those two weeks of performances (and all the rehearsals) contributed to some of my craziness as Becca tried to keep up with her classes.  I spent a lot of time coaching her through ’till finals.  Becca will be returning to T.C.C. for one last semester. Now she is back home for the summer and has blessed us with her new-found love of the kitchen.  She can whip up humus and guacamole that are out of this world.  Andy and I so enjoy having her around.

Spring with Rachel  meant volleyball two nights a week and guess who was “volunteered” to be the team coach?  Me!  My knowledge of volleyball is basic at best; I tried to be a cheerleader for the girls.  It turned out to be a tough season.  Rachel then finished 8th grade.  She will be going to University High School like her sisters before her.  She already has her eye on the volleyball program and wants to take both chorus and drama as classes.  And, like her sister (Becca) before her, Rachel will be taking “P.E.” online this summer.

We’re so thankful that God brought us to Trace Academy. Because Trace is a parent-run school, Rachel’s graduation means I will no longer be teaching.  God spent much of this school making it crystal clear that my teaching career has coming to an end.  I am so thankful that I got the chance to teach and touch the lives of many middle schoolers.  Now on to new adventures which   will involve me going back to working one or two days a week at the Campus Crusade/Cru Headquarters.   I plan to pursue a position in January.  For now, I want to relish my NEW position . . . . mother of the bride! Our Family Is Growing!

Many of you have known us for more than 20 years and have watched our girls grow up via our prayer letters.  Kathryn Noreen came into our lives after three years of marriage,  our California baby.  When she started school, Katie Noreen asked to go by Katie; in jr. high she became Kat; and in high school,  Cady.  Many of you have prayed with us for all of our girls to grow in their relationship with Jesus and make it their own.  That has not always been an easy road.  Even Cady will say that she spent a lot of high school “angry” at God.  And yet, He has been faithful to her and to us.

On May 9th (Cady’s 23rd birthday), at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, in front of Cinderella’s castle, during the fireworks display, Cady Noreen accepted Kevin Bishop’s proposal of marriage.  Kevin got down on one knee, and began to propose.  Yet, when he began to cry, (she hadn’t seen him cry before) Cady began to cry.  She yelled, “I’ve already said yes!” and then pulled him onto his feet, and Kevin gave her a ring.  As you can see, she was well dressed for the occasion — tutu and tiara included (Cady takes after me)!  Becca and two of Cady’s friends were with them, and they weren’t sure that Kevin ever actually finished the question.

The planning has officially kicked off—with a flurry.  Cady has known for a while where she wants to be married (behind a 100-year-old house in downtown Orlando) and who she wants as her photographer (a long-time hair styling client who regularly comes into Cady’s salon).  They will be married in early Spring of 2013.  We are all thrilled!!

Below is a collage of pictures of Cady through the years.  We’ll certainly be keeping you updated on her wedding progress over the next few months.
